Building a City Within the City: Pain & Progress (Nehemiah 4:1 – 14)

The book of Nehemiah is the story of one man who God called to lead a movement to restore the city of Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem in the book of Nehemiah very closely resembles what the church is supposed to be. A light in a dark world, a voice calling out the culture to live life differently.

Big Idea:
There can be no progress in life without pain, but it is in the Christian life that our pain becomes meaningful.

Next Steps:
* Memorize Nehemiah 4:14
* Pray specifically for the leaders of Revolution this week
* I’m interested in being baptized on February 20th

Big Idea:
Any successful organization or church must function as one unit. For Revolution to fulfill what God has called us to, we must work as one, within healthy teams.

Next Steps:
* Memorize 1 Corinthians 12:12
* Start serving at Revolution in _________________________

The book of Nehemiah is the story of one man who God called to lead a movement to restore the city of Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem in the book of Nehemiah very closely resembles what the church is supposed to be. A light in a dark world, a voice calling out the culture to live life differently.

Big Idea:
When we follow after God, we can and should expect adversity; it is in those moments of pain that we are able to most glorify God.

Next Steps:

    * Memorize Nehemiah 2:20
    * I’m interested in being baptized on February 20th

Building a City Within the City: Prayer and Planning (Nehemiah 2:1 – 8)

The book of Nehemiah is the story of one man who God called to lead a movement to restore the city of Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem in the book of Nehemiah very closely resembles what the church is supposed to be. A light in a dark world, a voice calling out the culture to live life differently.

Big Idea:
Many people pray too much and have no action. Others plan and plan and never seek God. Nehemiah shows us the balance we are to have between prayer and planning.

Our lives are built on something. In 2009, if we built our lives on the wrong thing, we see where that got us. As we start 2010, let’s build our lives on God.
